Job Details

"‘strong, very responsive team’ that provides ‘very good coverage’ of a range of property finance matters" – Chambers & Partners

The London banking team is well established market leading practice that has enjoyed remarkable growth, from a standing start in the City in 2011 to a 7-partner/20-lawyer team now. We have strong relationships with all the UK’s major clearing banks and we are fully integrated into OC's fast-growing national and international network. We have a market leading reputation in all of our key sectors which include Digital Business; Energy and Utilities; Financial Services and Real Estate and Infrastructure, as well as hotels and leisure, healthcare, education and fund financings.

The practice

This role will be primarily focussed on Real Estate Finance work. We have a growing international profile in this area and are increasingly instructed by internationally significant clients on complex cross-border financings.

We continue to act on a wide range of property finance matters, from core investment and development financings to complex, multi-banked deals which include both senior and mezzanine debt and intercreditor arrangements. Our finance team work in tandem with our key sector specialists in real estate, corporate, construction, planning, employment and tax.

New client wins reflect our increasingly diverse client base, including ICG Longbow, Tyndaris (Luxembourg incorporated debt fund with pan-European investments) and PGIM (global investment management platform) and further cement the team's strong reputation within the real estate finance market.

The team

The London banking team currently consists of 7 partners, 3 Senior Associates, 3 Associates, 2 Trainee Solicitors and 1 Paralegal.

This role will report to Madeleine Clark who leads our real estate finance practice across all 3 offices.

Highlights

- advising a leading student accommodation provider on a £200m+ transaction
- acting for a large logistics company on a Euro facility to fund the acquisition of property located in Europe
- advising a clearing bank on a facility to LondonMetric to finance the acquisition of 10 Odeon cinemas
- acting for a large property developer on a Euro facility to refinance the Fairmont Hotel in Monte Carlo
- advising Infrared on the sale of a portfolio of industrial properties located throughout the UK

Technical skills and experience

You will preferably have worked in a specialist real estate finance team and will have experience of leading transactions which involve both bilateral and multi-banked syndicated facilities.

As a guide, due to the nature of the work and the structure of the team, we are looking to appoint a Senior Associate in this area, although we will consider candidates with more or less experience.

In addition to a good technical grounding, you will:

  • have a desire and interest in building client relationships
    • have supervisory experience with the ability to co-ordinate workloads
    • have the ability to present technical legal issues in a clear, approachable and professional way
    • have client orientated approach and good commercial awareness
    • have an appetite for business development and be passionate about helping to help build the REF business
    • be a confident self-starter with a proven track record in real estate finance

Your career development

Like all our lawyers, you will benefit from our multi-award winning career development programme. At each stage of your career this provides you with:

  • clear expectations of your role and what it takes to progress;
    • high quality clients and work, with early responsibility and client exposure;
    • thorough assessment and individual feedback from a range of experienced colleagues;
    • robust technical training with early skills based development, increasingly tailored to you; and
    • reward for your contribution, progression and potential, rather than PQE or tenure.

Salary and benefits

We offer competitive salaries and generous benefits.
