Job Details

If someone told you, you could qualify as a solicitor in 6 years, without going to university, while earning a good salary and developing amazing skills and experience along the way, would you believe them? Well you should!  Our Solicitor Apprenticeship does just that.  We know that university isn't for everyone, but that shouldn't be the end of a successful legal career; in fact, it could be just the beginning with us.

We launched our first Solicitor Apprenticeship programme in September 2017 and we're now looking to roll out for a third year in our Newcastle office.  We're looking for talented future lawyers to join our Newcastle office as part of an incredibly exciting programme.

Joining our current apprentices, you will be part of this unique opportunity to shape the future of our programme.  So, not only do you get to qualify as a solicitor and gain a law degree with Northumbria University without the associated costs of university, you'll also have a significant impact on the future of our business.  Now how does that sound for starters?

We've a great track record in recruiting, developing and retaining apprentices.  In fact we've been recognised in the Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers as well as bagging the award for Best Newcomer Large Employer of the Year at the National Apprenticeship Awards – those accolades don't get much better, and we're so very proud to have been honoured for the programme that we've been running since 2014.  So, we think we're pretty good at this, but don't take our word for it, check out our YouTube channel to hear first-hand from some of our legal apprentices.

Okay, I hear you ask, "What will I actually be doing?"  We can promise you it's not all admin and filing.  This is a real opportunity to contribute to the future success of our business.  We're training our next generation of lawyers and that means giving you access to great quality work that will increase in complexity as you develop through the programme.  So be prepared for a gentle introduction to the business which might include spending some time in our business support teams, so that you really get to understand how our business works.  As you move into more of a legal role, we'll start you off gently with some of the more administrative duties so that you gain your confidence before taking on the more complex legal tasks.  But don't worry, you'll be supported every step of the way with a dedicated supervisor, mentor and HR support.  We're all rooting for you and want you to succeed, so we'll do everything in our power to make sure that happens.

They'll be plenty of opportunities for you to get involved with some of the wider business activities.  We've an active sports and social committee who organise regular events which will allow you to get to know your colleagues a little better.  We also have a strong focus on corporate social responsibility and there are plenty of community projects or charitable initiatives for you to get involved with.  In fact, we'll even give you two volunteering days a year, on top of your holiday entitlement.

It sounds so good, even we might apply!

We're looking for candidates with good academics; 128 UCAS points or equivalent as a minimum.  Beyond that, we'll be looking for you to demonstrate a few core skills: team-working, communication, creative and analytical thinking, an ability to build strong and lasting relationships and a drive to succeed.

Do you still have questions?  That's only natural.  We're here to answer any queries you might have before you make your application.  Feel free to get in touch with me, Kita Cureton, at kita.cureton@wbd-uk.com or 0117 989 6611.

You can also come along to an open evening with NESA at Northumbria University on Wednesday 6th March. Please click here to book your place at the event.

If it's an easy decision, then get your application in soon; our closing date is 08 April, with our assessment day taking place the week commencing 13 May.

You'll need to submit your application online at https://www.cilexlawschool.ac.uk/vacancies/north-east-solicitor-apprenticeship-nesa/ to be considered. Please note applications submitted via out website can not be accepted and you must apply via Cilex Law School.

If the timing isn't quite right for you, or this isn't the programme that you're looking for, you can keep in touch through our various social media channels for regular updates on the opportunities that might suit you best.
