THE ROLE

WIN (What in-house Lawyer's Need) is DLA Piper's client-facing marketing programme for our inhouse client community. It is an award-winning, global programme aimed at supporting inhouse counsel in their daily roles, and longer term careers. It consist of a series of soft skills training events, on demand and live webinars, GC panel debates, workshops and round tables, digital content and peer networking.  

DLA Piper runs an alumni programme consisting of a flagship publication and events in a number of locations. The programme is in its infancy.  

The Marketing & Business Development Manager – WIN & Alumni is responsible for the day-to-day running of the WIN programme including ensuring the successful execution of events, coordinating various committees, generating internal comms, reviewing client feedback and generating content ideas, producing the Alumni magazine and events, and managing the WIN website.  

The overall objective of the role is to enhance the profile of our WIN & Alumni programme both internally and externally.  

Some travel within the UK and internationally is a possibility.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Planning of annual training programme – market research, feedback analysis, meeting trainers to devise a mixture of webinars, training and networking events

  • Drafting of all content and copy for external and internal communications - invites, flyers, web, intranet etc.

  • Events – oversee delivery of specified WIN & Alumni events working closely with the London events team, including focus on targeted, personalised internal communications to increase engagement of CRPs and other fee-earners

  • Client committee – deliver a series of meet-ups/events throughout the year, maintaining a regular communication channel with committee

  • Internal committees – deliver regular communications to the committees to maintain engagement and provide all communications for them to send on to their groups

  • Responsible for production of collateral for the programme

  • Liaise with trainers to ensure content is relevant and of the right quality

  • WIN on demand – web updates, collateral updates, promotion

  • Fielding internal and external queries about our programmes

  • Support to all international locations with speaker suggestions, branding, copy etc.

  • Programme analysis – statistics, feedback monitoring, testimonials

  • Work closely with International partners in order to develop strategic business development and marketing plans and help manage delivery of all supporting activity

  • Competitor analysis - ensuring you are abrest of the offer from other firms and external organisations in the inhouse space

SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES

  • Degree/Professional Diploma in Marketing (desirable)

  • Events and/or campaigns experience

  • A curious and creative mind-set

  • An inquisitive, outward-looking and international perspective

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to exercise tact and diplomacy

  • Display a consistently positive and proactive attitude and adopt a 'can do' approach as well as being able to work well on own initiative and also as part of a wider team; collaborative working style

  • Highly developed understanding of what should be the marketing and BD priorities for a leading international legal group

  • An exemplary professional approach and demonstrably high levels of commitment and internal client care

  • Excellent communication and project management skills. You will be expected to have strong probing, consultative listening skills coupled with the ability to negotiate and persuade legal and client personnel

  • Demonstrable experience in demanding, partner-led international environments

  • A proven ability to deal with confidential and sensitive information

  • Ability to understand and identify with the firm, and its objectives and values
