THE ROLE

DLA Piper are now looking to hire an additional In-House Counsel to primarily undertake a consultant-type role to assist with developing processes for the procurement work that requires assistance from the legal team. Depending on the candidate, there is potential for the role to be full time or part time and this role will be based within our Legal, Risk & Compliance team, in our Leeds office.

The candidate will report to the General Counsel (who sits in our London office) and so the successful candidate must possess developed team working and communication skills and be a self-starter. A pro-active, commercial and flexible approach to help drive the team forward is essential. We offer first rate support in the form of training, manager time, excellent career prospects and an opportunity to play a role in the development of a key team in one of the world's most exciting and dynamic law firms.

We do not set upper or lower limits of PQE for any of our vacancies. We have however given an indicative PQE as an approximate guide for applicants. Candidates who have more than 8 years’ PQE, are likely to have the right level of knowledge and have gained the right level of experience needed to be able to undertake this role.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Working closely with the other members of the Legal, Risk Management and Compliance team to assist with operation design between teams;
  • Assisting with establishing work flow and processes between both the Procurement and Legal teams;
  • Reviewing our precedents and templates of our main legal documents; and
  • Assisting with drafting a suite of documents including minimum standards and guidelines with input from our legal, finance and insurance teams.

SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES

  • Previous experience in a similar role in private practice or in-house is a definitive advantage;
  • The successful candidate will need to possess excellent technical skills and attention to detail;
  • Developed team work, project management and client care abilities;
  • Highly organised, with proven ability to plan and manage a busy and varied workload;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Ability to take personal responsibility for and ownership of delivery;
  • Relationship management and the ability to work effectively at all levels including directly with management;
  • Ability to multi-task and to work in a busy and challenging environment;
  • Willingness to be flexible in terms of tasks to be taken forward.
