THE ROLE

To partner with the International Group Heads, to lead and execute upon the organisation and people agenda across the International firm. To also partner with the country leaders to develop, lead and execute upon the organisation and people agenda across the Practice Groups, Offices and Business Support areas. Understands the DLA Piper business strategy and as a trusted advisor helps to build its leadership and talent priorities to support business imperatives at the same time as building strong relationships that provide both support and challenge.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Acts as a single point of HR contact for the International Group Head(s) and is an active member of the international Practice Group leadership teams, facilitating to bring the best people solutions for the business, partners and employees.

  • Acts as a single point of HR contact for the Country Managing Partner(s) and is an active member of the in country leadership team, facilitating to bring the best people solutions for the business, partners and employees.

  • Contribute as a member of the HR team, to firm-wide HR strategies and initiatives, ensuring the Practice Group perspective is reflected.

  • Builds strong business relationships with the internal clients and works closely with the HR colleagues to build an overarching people plan and to track delivery.

  • Works in partnership with Country Managing Partners, Practice Group Heads, Finance and Heads of Operations to shape and influence forward looking organisation and workforce plans as part of the financial planning cycle and share back into the demand cycle within HR.

  • Leads the leadership & talent management agenda for the practice group(s) and country(s), meeting business goals through the attraction, identification, development, engagement, retention and deployment of individuals with the right capability to execute business goals. Works with the HR teams in the different countries to ensure consistency of approach and to coordinate and consolidate to build an international picture.

  • Partners with the International Group Head(s) to support the development of the internal and external partner pipeline and appointments.

  • Proactively oversee and support the delivery of the HR calendar in country, ensuring consistency of approach and to coordinate and consolidate to build an international Practice Group(s) and in country picture.

  • Provides coaching to in country line managers to encourage effective communication & objective problem resolution. Where required manages complex employee relations casework, drives resolution in line with legislation and internal policies.

  • Participates in the implementation of specific projects, taking a lead role where appropriate, to help align the workforce to the strategic goals of the Firm.

  • Actively identifies gaps, proposes and implements changes necessary to address people risks, working proactively with colleagues across the international landscape, specialist CoE areas, Operations and GSC to bring knowledge, insight and demand from the business. Works as one united team in support of business goals.

SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES

  • Proven ability to build and maintain a high level of professional credibility with senior business clients in a complex matrix structure

  • Demonstrable success in partnering with and supporting the business through strategic change

  • Significant demonstrable Human Resources experience, across all core areas of HR - recruitment, reward, performance management, learning & development, talent management.

  • Proven experience of working across the HR Operating Model, delivering agreed business outcomes through virtual teams.

  • Proven experience in leading complex employee relations cases through to conclusion, balancing the needs of the business and the individual.

  • Strong consulting, stakeholder management, influencing and communication skills.

  • Strong level of commercial awareness, financial and business acumen

  • Strong organisational skills including project management, attention to detail and multi-tasking.

  • International HR experience is desirable

  • Professional qualification (CIPD or equivalent) is desirable
