We're looking for a finance professional who demonstrates expertise and passion for systems to join our Newcastle office.

Background

We've identified that we can add real value to our clients and gain a competitive advantage when we have meaningful data to analyse, especially when it comes to financial information.  We need to ensure this information is analysed regularly and that our existing systems continue to meet the need of both our clients and lawyers in an ever-changing legal landscape.

So what will you be doing?

The firm has recently initiated an upgrade project to its practice management system, Aderant.  Working closely with the Head of Finance Systems, you will be responsible for the day to day activities required to review, test and implement the latest version of Aderant.  This will include working with Aderant to develop customisations that improve our internal process; establishing ways in which the new functions of Aderant can be utilised to ease administrative burdens and assist with compliance; and to work with the wider firm to assist with adoption and change management.  Key to this role will be working with a wide-variety of individuals across the firm, both lawyers and others in relevant support functions.  Therefore building positive relationships across the firm will be an essential part of the role.

With your sound accounting knowledge you will provide guidance to the other members of the systems team on the more complex aspects of financial reporting, helping them to develop our SSRS reporting and Qlik platforms.  You will take the lead in developing Prevero, a tool the firm secured to assist with data processing and financial planning.  Working closely with the Business Planning and Resourcing team to streamline the provision of monthly, quarterly and annual management information.   Key to this role will be working with a wide-variety of individuals across the firm, both lawyers and others in relevant support functions.  Therefore building positive relationships across the firm will be an essential part of the role.

The firm are committed to being innovative and you will be in a key position to help with that goal, either by developing existing systems or implementing new ones.

Sounds great, what are we looking for?

Firstly, legal sector experience is not a pre-requisite for success in this role, but proven experience of working in a professional services environment is.  You'll need extensive finance systems experience and a thorough understanding of accounting (ideally backed up with a professional accountancy qualification).  Technically you'll need strong IT skills and be an expert user of MS Excel and SQL, experience of working with Aderant (a legal practice management system) would be highly beneficial.

Aside from those technical skills, you'll bring a range of excellent interpersonal and business skills. We'll be expecting you to work with a range of people across the business so the ability to build relationships, at all levels, is critical and, importantly, to communicate (often complex) information in way that those of us less technically skilled than you, can understand. We're operating in a fast-paced and changing environment so the ability to adapt, and respond quickly is critical.

What's in it for you?

We know that it's not all about us. You'll want to be assured that this is the right opportunity for you and we really believe that this is a fantastic place to work. You'll be joining a supportive team where you can learn from some exceptionally talented individuals but where your experience is also valued highly. Supported by a collegiate approach, and firm wide commitment to career development there are fewer better places to develop your career within the legal sector.

And that's not all, alongside a competitive salary you'll receive a flexible benefits package so you can pick and choose between the benefits that matter most to you.
