Experience Level
2-5yrs PQE

We carry out the full range of debt finance work. This covers working on bilateral and syndicated loan agreements, secured or unsecured, investment grade LMA or leveraged finance LMA. Size does vary from deal to deal, from £5million loans for some smaller corporate clients up to (and beyond) a recent corporate borrower raising EUR250 million syndicated facilities from a 7 bank lending club and 10 overseas jurisdictions.

The transactions themselves can be corporate mergers & acquisitions, leveraged finance/private equity buy-outs or straightforward refinancings. Our practice has seen significant growth in advising private credit funds over the last 2 years and we have a market-leading position in this sector in the NW.

In addition, to debt finance we also transact real estate finance and asset based lending (invoice discounting etc.). One of the NW-based partners plays a leading role in the national ABL team at DLA Piper.

We would expect the successful candidate to demonstrate skills and experience in all of the above and to participate in all aspects of the team’s work.

Our clients break down into 4 main categories:

  • corporate clients
  • private equity houses/financial sponsors
  • lenders (including all major banks and, increasingly, alternative debt funds);
  • international firm client referrals (last year we worked with Frankfurt and Paris, NYC and most recently Baltimore on English financing requirements for their clients.)

We generate most of our own work in the North West, but we do work on a national basis so, as and when necessary, we collaborate with the Leeds, Birmingham and London teams.

The DLA Piper platform genuinely offers an unparalleled opportunity to access work with an international aspect in the North West.

 At c.3-5 PQE, we would anticipate the role would consist of a mixture of:

  • Supervising and mentoring junior associates on CP and ancillary documentation
  • Preparing and negotiating intercreditor/subordination arrangements
  • Preparing and negotiating facility agreements - syndicated and bilateral
  • Demonstrating lead lawyer capabilities
