Our Practice Development Lawyers play a key part in the development of our strategy for the delivery of efficient and technology-driven legal services, and are a vital resource for clients and colleagues alike.

Our Commercial team is currently recruiting for a legal innovation support assistant to provide some much needed support to Malcom Dowden, the team's Practice Development Lawyer. Working with a multi-office team of over 75 fee earners, Malcolm's role is vital to the on-going development of the Commercial practice, strategy and client service experience at an exciting stage of the firm's growth and development.

Malcolm's based in our Southampton office, however for the right candidate, this role could be based out of any one of our UK offices.

What will you be doing?

Essentially there are three main functions;

  • Research, analysis and communication of legal, market and technological developments affecting the delivery of legal advice, services and training;

  • Contractual drafting, document automation and contract coding support for "smart" or "connected" contracts; and

  • Administrative, scheduling, research and planning support to ensure the smooth running of client projects, UK and international training sessions and conference presentations.

What does the ideal candidate look like?

You'll have a degree and this may well be in law, but there are other degrees that could make your application of interest, for example in engineering, chemistry or even history.  Due to the nature of the role you'll need to be highly organised, self-motivated and possess excellent IT skills.  Previous commercial experience is desirable though not essential.  What is essential is a genuine interest in technological developments and the challenges and opportunities they present for modern legal practice.

So what's in it for you?

The introduction of smart contracts and artificial intelligence create exciting opportunities to shape the way law firms operate and this is a fantastic opportunity to be at the forefront of its design at the same time as providing a genuine opportunity for increased responsibility and career development.  You may be looking for a traditional legal training contract, leading to qualification as a solicitor, or you could be more interested in helping to carve out a wholly new career path as a legal technology specialist or  "legal engineer".

And that's not all, alongside a competitive salary you'll receive a flexible benefits package so you can pick and choose between the benefits that matter most to you.

Sounds like a great role doesn't it?  Get in touch to find out more; my name is Emma Forrester and you can reach me on 0117 989 6593.
