A fantastic opportunity to provide technical support for our SQL server databases and delivering technical input into projects.
About the role
You will be responsible for the performance, integrity and security of a database. As well as being involved in the planning and development of the database, you will also troubleshoot any issues. You will take ‘a hands’ on approach to the role by supporting and maintaining the CMS SQL Environment, delivering BAU projects appropriately and managing the existing applications portfolio.
You will be technically skilled with solid experience of SQL. You will have good communication skills with a focus on customer service and satisfaction. This role will be ideal for someone who is a problem solver,with a proactive and pragmatic approach to their work. Someone who is able to make judgements based on their analytical strengths and who can work under pressure to meet deadlines.
The successful candidate will have:
- Good understanding of various SQL Clustering, HA and DR methods:
- Windows Failover Cluster – configuring and troubleshooting
- SQL AlwaysOn High Availability – configuring, maintaining and troubleshooting (on local subnets and stretched across subnets)
- Log Shipping - configuring, maintaining and troubleshooting
- Good understanding of performance tuning and troubleshooting
- Data extraction:
- Ability to write large queries, joining data from several tables to produce data extracts used by other systems
- Understanding of ETL and how to Extract, Transform and Load data
- Understanding of the benefits and downfalls of different methods, e.g. Stored Procedures vs SSIS
