Purpose of job: 

To provide professional, efficient and high quality support to the Risk and Compliance Management team and to administer key elements of the firm’s risk management and compliance framework in particular the data privacy framework.

• The Risk and Compliance team has a global and cross-functional advisory remit. Our aims are to promote a risk aware culture based on ethics and integrity and to ensure everyone is aware of and pro-actively manages risk at all levels across our business in a way that enables us to achieve our strategic and business objectives and protects our reputation
• We work closely with the Managing Partner, the Board, the Audit and Risk Committee and our dedicated risk champions across the practice groups, in our international offices and within the Business Services departments
• This is a varied and challenging role which may over time be developed to increase scope and responsibility

• Assist with the continued development and implementation of the firm’s framework for data privacy compliance (we anticipate that this will be approx. 50% of the role)
• Act as a first point of contact for internal risk and compliance queries in relation to a broad range of issues such as confidentiality, market abuse, share dealing, outside interests,   publicity, data protection, escrow arrangements, undertakings, FSMA and the Scope rules, consumer legislation, audit letters, terms of engagement
• Assist with the continued development and implementation of a risk management framework for the firm across its operations, including:
• drafting risk and compliance policies and procedures
• development of the firm’s risk registers 
• Drafting consultation responses in respect of issues of interest or concern to the firm
• Advising on the firm’s contracts with clients
• Advising on the firm’s contracts with suppliers
• Responding to pitch queries
• Improving the information which is available on the Risk & Compliance section of the firm’s intranet

Experience and Knowledge 

• Legally qualified and admitted to practise in the UK (or another common law or EU jurisdiction)

• Experience in regulatory compliance 
• Experience in private practice (or in-house or with a Regulator) in any of corporate, commercial, litigation, regulatory and/or data protection

• Trustworthy with the ability to display discretion when dealing with confidential and sensitive information
• Enthusiastic self-starter who wants to learn and seek improvement
• Good service ethic and good communication skills
• Ability to embrace change, new challenges and to learn new skills with a positive attitude to requests for action outside of normal scope of duties

• Able to work under pressure and control multiple tasks but know when to seek assistance

• Confident self-starter who is comfortable handling a broad array of commercial and regulatory queries and providing advice direct to the business
• Excellent communication skills and independent judgement as you will be required to work closely with partners across the firm and other members of senior management on sensitive and time critical issues that concern the reputation of the firm
• Excellent time management, ability to prioritise work and execute it efficiently and effectively
• Team player
• Language skills are an advantage (particularly Mandarin, Cantonese, Russian, German or Arabic)
• Proficient in Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Excellent organisational skills
