The firm

Dentons is always looking to invest in the highest-quality talent, recognising that our success is built on the diverse and unique strengths of each of the members of our Firm.

Dentons is the world's largest law firm, delivering quality and value to clients around the globe. Dentons is a leader on the Acritas Global Elite Brand Index, a BTI Client Service 30 Award winner and recognized by prominent business and legal publications for its innovations in client service, including founding Nextlaw Labs and the Nextlaw Global Referral Network. Dentons' polycentric approach and world-class talent challenge the status quo to advance client interests in the communities in which we live and work.

The department

Our top-ranked engineering and construction team works on building, engineering, utilities, transportation, infrastructure, energy and real estate development projects, and associated dispute resolution.

The Dentons' construction team is part of the Energy, Transport & Infrastructure department, which in turn sits  at the heart of the broader firm.

Over the past four years, this team has flourished and is regularly instructed on high-quality, high-value work. The team is engaged on a range of international disputes, currently including matters across the Middle East, Africa and Europe.  Clients range from blue chip corporate names, developers, contractors and financial institutions.

You can expect to be involved in: adjudication, litigation, arbitration (domestic and international), mediation and other types of ADR.

You will be expected to support the partners and the senior associates in the team. In addition, as you develop your skills you will be expected to take a significant role on cases. This would involve  your  acting as the main day to day point of contact for clients, counsel and experts. Where appropriate,  you will have responsibility for managing and supervising the more junior members of the team. The culture of the team involves all team members both taking on and accepting responsibility and authority for the matters in which they are involved. Although you will be located in Edinburgh, you will be expected to assist where required on projects led from any of our UK or overseas offices.

There will be opportunities for you to contribute to the team's  business development activities. As part of your continued development, you will also prepare and deliver training (internal and for clients), write articles and deliver seminar presentations.

Required experience, skills and attributes

  • You must have excellent academic standards, with a minimum of a 2.1 or equivalent. This will be accompanied by a strong legal background.

  • You will have trained with a recognised firm and will have had  exposure to contentious construction matters.

Language Capabilities

We are a truly global law firm and as such, always welcome hearing from those with foreign language capabilities.

Equal opportunities

Dentons is committed to providing equal opportunities for all. If, as a result of a disability, you believe that there are aspects of the recruitment process or job that you would find more difficult than a non-disabled person, please tell us as soon as possible. We will then be able to discuss with you any reasonable adjustments that could be made to the recruitment process or the job itself.
