Associate / Senior Associate
Our busy and dynamic team is looking for an Associate (NQ – 5yrs PQE) in our Sheffield office to deal predominantly with defending clinical and dental negligence claims.
The team currently deals with defending clinical and dental negligence claims and professional disciplinary cases (generally before the General Medical Council) and representation at inquests for members of the UK’s leading medical and dental defence organisations, the Medical Defence Union (MDU) and Dental Defence Union (DDU). The team operates from CMS offices in London, Manchester and Sheffield.
The team also works for other medical and professional indemnity insurers and members of the medical profession for matters where they are not covered by a medical defence organisation. We defend claims involving medical devices. We also get involved in other aspects of CMS's work where there is a medical or medical regulatory aspect, including for private health care providers in a rapidly expanding area of the health market for legal services, for example assisting in "Safeguarding" and Serious Untoward Incident inquiries.
The team has a strong reputation for excellence in dealing with high value, high profile, sensitive and complex matters.
We are part of a wider CMS Practice group, Litigation, Arbitration, Insurance and Employment and within the CMS Sector team covering Life Sciences & Healthcare.
About the role
predominantly the investigation and defence of professional negligence claims against doctors and dentists;
the investigation and defence of professional disciplinary cases against doctors;
preparation for the representation of doctors at inquests;
dealing extensively with doctors, the MDU’s claims and advisory team, counsel, medical and other experts, statutory bodies such as the GMC and other parties representatives;
providing efficient professional support for and working closely with other team members;
developing professional relationships with clients;
supporting the wider team in developing our business and raising the profile of CMS.
