Job description

We are currently recruiting for a Senior HR Project Manager to join our London office on an 18 month fixed term contract or secondment basis.

Role purpose

To support the Global Head of Reward and the Global Head of Talent in the roll-out of Compass across the global firm.  It is a complex project with multiple implementation streams and multiple timelines.  The success of the project will require a significant behaviour shift so a key element of the role will be to develop a change management plan.

Role and responsibilities

  • The management and delivery of the Compass Project in a coordinated manner, involving proactive interventions and decision-making to ensure work streams stay on track
  • Take full ownership of the project including effective:
    • Delivery of objectives
    • Management of project team
    • Management of stakeholders
    • Management of budgets
    • Management of risks, issues and priorities
  • Ensure a consistent approach is taken with other HR projects/programmes and the overall HR Strategy
  • Improve the success and visibility of the project
  • Use initiative to identify innovative ideas or best practice from other organisations.

Strategy & Business Change

  • Clearly articulate the Compass business case in conjunction with the business and HR Leadership Team 
  • Ensure that appropriate levels of business support and approval are obtained
  • Work with project stakeholders, HR colleagues and suppliers to ensure that the most cost-effective, timely and appropriate solutions are developed, within agreed quality standards
  • Establish and maintain good relations with the business, Global HR peers and suppliers. Resolve conflicting priorities or issues that may arise.
  • Work with project sponsors to ensure the benefits identified in business cases have been updated throughout the project lifecycle, especially where changes have been made.
  • Work with the business, to ensure there are processes in place to track and measure business benefits (which were identified in the business case) following implementation of the project.


  • Scoping; budgeting; setting up project phases
  • Preparation of project plans for internal and external use 
  • Identify stakeholders and establish a communication plan
  • Updates to project plans 


  • Ensure governance structure for each project is defined
  • Ensure project sponsors fulfil their responsibilities to projects
  • Ensure all key project documentation has been approved
  • Ensure project is delivered to time, budget and agreed quality
  • Review project progress and effectively manage any changing requirements, dependencies, milestones, risks, issues and/or priorities
  • Own management reporting against key milestones, change, budget, risks & issues
  • Ensure the project is formally closed with a PIR and all lessons learned recorded

Project Resourcing

  • Clearly define roles and responsibilities for all those involved in the project
  • Escalation point for Project Managers/Workstream Leads


  • Undertake budgeting and escalate budget issues

Key Skills and Experience 

  • Proven project management experience with a very good track record of delivering  on time, to budget and to agreed quality standards
  • Advanced organisational and analytical skills with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment and to work under pressure, successfully prioritising work without compromising quality
  • Possess a high degree of initiative and independent judgment with excellent troubleshooting, decision-making, and follow-through skills
  • Demonstrates strong reporting skills, project planning skills
  • Experienced in taking existing internal processes and developing them and ensuring their adoption
  • The ability to promote technology within the firm, using business-friendly language, seeking opportunities with tangible business benefits
  • Commercial acumen, including an understanding of the overall picture of how HR adds value to the business
  • Knowledge of the HR market and trends
  • Knowledge and experience of project management methodologies
  • Highly self-motivated, a self-starter who will undertake all activities to the highest professional standards
  • Strong experience in leading, managing and motivating teams
  • High-level interpersonal skills to facilitate communication in person, by email, and telephone with professionalism and diplomacy. Very strong facilitation and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders and the ability to influence at a senior level
  • Proven history of collaboration, flexibility of style and the ability to manage upwards and sideways
  • Experience working with global teams and where relevant third parties
  • Ability to establish oneself as a trusted advisor within the HR team and other functions
  • Ability to navigate office politics and deliver what is right for the business


  • Degree qualified or equivalent
  • Project Management Certification (e.g. PRINCE2)
