The Role

Our pro bono mission is to deliver first-class legal services to the underserved and disadvantaged by fostering an environment that encourages and promotes service and to promote and sponsor activities that provide opportunities for all Firm personnel, independently, and in partnership with our clients, to contribute to the well-being of the communities in which we practise and live.

Our London Pro Bono Practice is seeking an Associate to join their team in a part-time role.

Specifically, the role will include:

  • Driving the formation of a refreshed UK pro bono strategy and policies
  • Delivering CSR and business development results
  • Supporting the Pro Bono Partner in advising the Management Committee on the Firm's own statutory reporting requirements and options
  • Alongside the Pro Bono Partner and CSR Manager, being a key point of contact for pro bono clients, and BM lawyers and fee-paying clients in respect of pro bono projects
  • Overseeing office pro bono capacity and matter-assignment
  • Assessing and scoping the technical and legal aspects of requests for new pro bono assistance, alongside the CSR Manager, who will consider the CSR/non-legal aspects of potential projects and partnerships
  • Working with the CSR Manager to seek out and scope new pro bono projects and opportunities
  • Seeking out and facilitating client teaming projects, in collaboration with practice groups and business development teams
  • Helping to coordinate large/ complex pro bono projects
  • Supervising / acting as a resource for lawyers working on pro bono matters
  • Discharging discrete pro bono matters where necessary
  • Building know-how and expertise for new types of work
  • Creating and maintaining a centralised know-how depository for pro bono work
  • Planning and delivering pro bono training for lawyers and teaming clients
  • Engaging in external pro bono sector meetings, taskforce groups and events
  • Helping to create communications around our pro bono work and strategy

The Team

The Pro Bono Associate will support the Pro Bono Partner.  Aside from the many lawyers contributing to pro bono matters across the office, the core Pro Bono Practice also includes a CSR Manager, a CSR Coordinator (based in the firm's offshore service centre in Manila) and several Pro Bono Committee Members from around the office.
