THE OPPORTUNITY  

This role would suit an experienced communications professional who is passionate about responsible business and creating innovative communications to bring to life the work and impact of our pro bono and responsible business programmes and projects around the world. There is a need to re-engage our employees and senior internal stakeholders, clients and external audiences and the communication manager will need to embrace this new challenge such that this work is positively positioned in an engaging and credible manner and be driven to use communications to creatively leverage our best in class work.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Creation and implementation of a joined up responsible business and pro bono communications strategy and plan, to position DLA Piper as a responsible business leader and innovator to internal and external stakeholders

  • Integrate responsible business communications activity with internal and corporate communications channels, while also identifying new communications opportunities

  • Ensure the global responsible business and pro bono team have communications at the centre of their current and future activity and work with them to co-create innovative communications

  • Maintain close working relationships with the responsible business and pro bono teams globally, to understand the programmes and activity to identify milestones, innovation and impacts to co-create with the teams communication priorities, messages and materials

  • Regular liaison with the marketing and communications teams to understand and plan communications opportunities

  • Mapping of key stakeholders and creation of a communications plan for each

  • Day-to-day management of the responsible business and pro bono news section of the intranet which includes drafting and publishing content on a regular basis

  • Assisting on pitches, press releases, awards submissions, keeping web content updated and supporting other external communications

  • The job holder may be required to undertake additional duties from time to time

ABOUT YOU

  • An excellent writer with meticulous attention to detail with a track record in delivering impactful communications and able to demonstrate a high degree of creativity

  • Experience delivering global communications to a very high standard, ideally but not exclusively within a professional services environment

  • Excellent communication and project management skills, able to report on project delivery against plan and objectives. You will be expected to have strong probing, consultative listening skills coupled with the ability to negotiate and persuade

  • Maintain an  ambitious and innovative approach to communications for responsible business programmes and their impacts combined with a desire to seek thought leadership opportunities through associated issues and opportunities

  • Able to work with internal teams including design, internal communications, corporate communications, social media, digital and external agencies

  • Demonstrate credibility and be able to interact with senior management, colleagues across the business and external stakeholders in a professional, confident manner

  • Demonstrate experience and understanding of corporate responsibility and/or responsible business ideally but not exclusively within professional services

  • The ability to adapt rapidly to working within a client-focused global professional services firm

  • Experience of working in some of the priority responsible business focus areas UK and/or globally: social mobility, business and human rights, access to justice, rule of law, child protection and child justice, sustainability, community investment, responsible/sustainable advice

  • Have experience of working with intranets

  • Embrace change and influence others to modify their behaviours and attitudes where necessary and maintain relationships with other functions and disciplines within DLA Piper

  • Display a consistently positive attitude and adopt a 'can do' approach as well as being able to work well on own initiative and also as part of a wider team; collaborative working style

  • Have excellent interpersonal skills

  • Able to credibly and confidently work with  senior internal stakeholders. Demonstrate stakeholder management communication skills, diplomacy and negotiation skills with the ability to exercise tact and diplomacy

  • Have experience in dealing with a demanding workload and conflicting priorities

  • Be able to multi-task and work to deadlines, be methodical and logical, as well as thrive in a robust and fast-paced environment

  • Have the ability to see delegated tasks through to completion at a high standard

  • Have the ability to stay calm and composed in often demanding situations

  • Be IT literate - experience of Excel, Word 2010, Outlook is essential and iMovie, desirable
