Main Purpose of the Job

Working closely with the Head of Professional Indemnity to assist in all
aspects of professional indemnity risk management, including the notification and handling of claims against the firm.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Liaising with Insurers, brokers, Finance, internal lawyers and (where appropriate) external
  • lawyers and Claimants/their solicitors in relation to claims and circumstances
  • Assisting with the handling of claims and notifications, including obtaining and providing regular updates to insurers
  • Managing the claims handling database, including creating new notifications and updating reserves and payments made information
  • Assisting with training to fee earners on the causes of claims and how to avoid them
  • Assisting with the renewal of the firm's PI Insurance cover
  • Analysis of claim trends
  • Compiling monthly reports for the Practice Group Leaders on notifications
  • Compiling notifications summaries for Partners' PDRs
  • Assisting with the delivery of the firm's Enterprise Risk Management programme as and when required, including assisting with the implementation and monitoring of risk registers and mitigation plans
  • Any other reasonable duties delegated by General Counsel, Support Heads or any Partner of the firm

Key skills and experience

  • The ideal candidate would be a paralegal with at least 4 years' experience of defendant professional indemnity work
  • Knowledge of the law and practice relating to solicitors PI claims and PI insurance
  • Practical experience of analysing and handling claims 
  • Excellent communication and IT skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
