THE ROLE

The Senior Compliance Manager will:

  • Assist with all legal, regulatory and compliance issues, incidents and queries which may arise, escalating those as appropriate to other risk specialists in the legal, risk management and compliance team

  • Support the Head of Compliance in relation to compliance requirements and initiatives and work closely together on the annual compliance declaration, ensuring all PI issues are duly notified

  • Management of discrete compliance projects as assigned

  • Contribute, as a member of legal, risk management and compliance, to queries which arise on Risk issues and deliver firm-wide risk strategies, initiatives and projects.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support in the development, implementation and maintenance of coordinated policies and processes which minimise the firm's exposure to regulatory compliance risk

  • Support in the development, implementation and maintenance of the training and support mechanisms required to achieve and maintain compliance with agreed firm policies and law/regulation

  • Support the firm's career and academy programmes, and other central training initiatives

  • Provide support and guidance to the Regional Risk Managers on regulatory and compliance issues affecting their region;

  • Supporting the renewal of annual registrations and practising licenses throughout the DLA Piper International firm, and with the annual compliance declaration;

  • Support and advise other Service Areas (eg. HR, IT, Finance, Marketing, Facilities, Knowledge Management) on regulatory risk and compliance issues that are relevant to their activities and projects;

  • Assist in the resolution of complaints and regulatory report/investigations

  • Contribute to the delivery of the legal risk and compliance team's Annual Action Plan and other firm wide risk priorities;

SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES

  • Be a self-starter, who is able to work on their own initiative as well as being part of a team, and has a strong client service orientation

  • Possess a high level of commercial acumen and analytical skills

  • Have a sound understanding of risk and compliance practice gained in a fully developed enterprise risk management environment; be able to think strategically and creatively;

  • The ability to build and maintain strong relationships both within and outside the firm, acting as an effective brand ambassador for DLA Piper, and an internal change agent

  • be comfortable operating in sometimes ambiguous situations, demonstrating a flexible and collaborative personal working style;

  • be comfortable multi-tasking and working to sometimes conflicting timescales and multiple priorities in a robust and fast-paced environment
