Innovative, efficient and effective IT systems are essential to the successful operation of a global law firm like Herbert Smith Freehills. The information technology team keeps our global team of lawyers and Business Services staff connected, whether we're in the office or on the move.

Information technology is responsible for everything information systems-related. That includes:

  • technical support: IT helpdesks, asset management (including laptops and mobile devices) and technical training
  • infrastructure: networks and systems, servers (real and virtualised), disaster recovery, business continuity and IT security
  • innovation and technology: driving the increasingly important adoption of technology in new ways
  • development: designing and acquiring business applications

While the roles within the division may vary, all involve providing the very best services and systems. You may also have the opportunity to work on challenging projects across the firm.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Core IT Business Solutions team are responsible for the strategic direction, operational and project delivery of all applications used within the firm. This includes:

  • Performing ETL data migrations using SSIS
  • Producing reports using TransactSQL and SSRS
  • Selection, development/designing, management and operational support of the all the firms applications through the full lifecycle
  • Configuration of applications through Active Directory (GPO's/GPP's)
  • Software packaging technologies such as Install Shield
  • Scripting technologies including PowerShell, VBA, JavaScript
  • Microsoft SQL, SCCM, Team Foundation Server
  • Office 365 SAAS applications
  • The SQL/SSIS/SSRS skills are essential; the others are advantageous but candidates must at least be prepared to cross-train into them.

    This role requires excellent technical, initiative and communication skills to ensure consistent delivery of services. It is necessary that an awareness of the environment across all platforms is understood and that this knowledge is articulated clearly at all times.

  • Work as an integral member of the team.
  • Effectively adapt to rapidly changing technology and apply it to business needs, executing a proactive and creative approach to resolving business problems through the use of technology.
  • Progress assigned projects and tasks with the aim of delivering them on time and to budget using agreed Project Management procedures. Work with third party vendors (e.g. Microsoft) to facilitate problem resolution.
  • Assess and recommend architectural designs/changes to systems in response to performance issues, growth requirements etc. Work closely with the firm's International offices, with a possibility of travel to ensure they are fully catered for.

    As a key part of the role within the Core IT Business Solutions team, the analyst will be working closely with the IT Department as a subject matter expert (SME) in any or all of the technologies described above to deliver products as part of project teams. The analyst will be working with the Desktop and Server teams to support the applications within Herbert Smith Freehills in the capacity of 3rd line support. The Team also work with the rest of IT, other Support teams and the firm as a whole to:

  • Agree application direction and roadmap(s)
  • Support all above technologies on a day to day basis when in pilot or POC phase.
  • Deliver projects where the above technologies form part or all of the product
  • Run Proof of concept and pilot delivery of applications using Agile methodologies
  • Transition pilot applications into the relevant production teams for full support by the business
  • Deliver Cloud based applications and integrations with existing applications
  • Ensure that adequate documentation has been produced/is available to ensure that new solutions can be successfully supported by the production support team

  • QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • ITIL Certification
  • Relevant qualifications in system such as Worksite or Microsoft technologies
  • SQL/SSIS/SSRS skills are essentialSound evidence of working experience in as many or all of the above technologies in a similar, 3rd line role
